When I first got to Hiroshima, I wasn’t a big fan. It felt like it wasn’t as developed as Tokyo or Osaka, and the pace of life seemed pretty slow. But after spending more time in Japan and visiting other cities, I started to realize that Hiroshima is actually a great place.
Getting the Peace Culture Scholarship gave me the chance to hear the staff talk more in-depth about the history of the atomic bombing, which really helped me understand the city’s past. Even though Hiroshima went through so much during the war, it’s now a quiet, peaceful city with a really warm vibe.
At my part-time job, my Japanese coworkers and manager are super kind, and that’s really changed how I see the place. Plus, the environment here is great—fresh air, clear seasons, and compared to Tokyo’s fast pace, it’s a place where you can just slow down and enjoy life.
Most importantly, there are fewer natural disasters, so it feels safe to live here. I used to think big cities were the best, but now I realize that places like Hiroshima, with a good balance and relaxed pace, are way more attractive.
